I don’t know where this sudden urge came from, but this last year and a half I feel like I haven’t properly decorated for a holiday until I have a wreath on the front door and a banner up somewhere…
That is so not like me, but I love it! I knew I wanted to make an Easter wreath and banner somehow with my Stampin’ Up Petal Garden Card Set & Hello Easter stamps. I thought, PAPER FLOWERS on the wreath, Brilliant! But then I discovered that I did not in fact invent that idea ☹ But it is no wonder someone else thought of it first – it looks amazing!!
DIY Paper Flower Wreath
I knew I wanted flowers when I set the wreath down next to a vase of flowers on the table, how perfect together! The bright smooth colors next to the rustic branches!
I used the bigger papers for the roses, and cut out 4 inch diameter circles. (My youngest kept busy cutting out hole punch holes from the scrap colorful paper so we can make confetti Easter eggs made from real egg shells. Last year we “egged” our house with them. (Have you ever done those? IT IS A BLAST!!)
Next, you cut a spiral out from the circle – start skinny and gradually cut thicker until you get to the middle- It doesn’t have to be perfect. Starting with the skinny end, use a toothpick and roll as tightly as you can around it, roll the whole thing tightly, and hold it tight for a few seconds. Let go and the rose will be the perfect shape! (Notice the green rose in the above picture, I didn’t use a toothpick and it definitely doesn’t look as good!).
Now hot glue a big glob on the piece at the end of rolling it and push lightly down the top of the rose so it is held firmly in place. Next glue them onto the wreath where you want them!
Last I stamped onto the “wood” egg and bunny and hung it from a string attached at the back of the wreath. I can easily cut the bunny off and use it again for next Valentine’s day if I put something else in the middle!
Spring Banner Tutorial
I had all those smaller papers leftover, super cute little paper doilies, and a bunny stamp I didn’t get to use… so I made a matching banner!! I made small flowers and cut out triangles from the smaller sized papers. I stamped the bunny at the top of each triangle, wrote my letters on with a white paint marker, and hot glued a little string scrap onto the back of the roses so I could tie them where I wanted onto the banner. The two end triangles I glued on a paper doily, cut the excess off, and put rose stickers from the paper set on last.
My husband suggested I hang it on the steel ornamental hanging thing that holds the saw on our wall above the table—perfect! Is a wreath and a banner an important part of your holiday decorating too?
