My sister Shilowe’s birthday is on June 21st, the first day of Summer and the Summer Solstice. Her birthday was always the official ushering in of Summer for me. I knew once her birthday arrived it would mean swimming, camping out under the stars, and playing night games with the neighborhood kids. The ultimate symbol of Summer’s arrival was my sisters choice of birthday cake. She never wanted a traditional cake. It always needed to be a watermelon cake. Which is basically a hollowed out watermelon with fruit salad inside and sparkler candles on top. Quite the statement really. But now everything watermelon reminds me of those birthday parties. When I got these watermelon stamps in my June Paper Pumpkin I couldn’t wait to make something special. And what is more Summer than a Watermelon Tote Bag?
You need a good go-to bag for all those Summer days of fun. This is perfect for loading up your swimsuit, towel, sunnies, and snacks to hit the swimming hole. Or a trip to the library to load up on Summer reading adventures. My kiddos end up taking these simple cotton totes for everything, from Grandma’s house sleep-overs to filling them with quiet time toys for church. And they love them even more when they get to personalize them with Paper Pumpkin stamps.
June Paper Pumpkin
This month I didn’t have any special reason to make up some cards. So when I got my Paper Pumpkin box this month I wanted to get creative. What I love most about this monthly kit is that there are so many alternative project ideas. Stamps can create so many fun and easy projects. Plus, I love that my little humans get to enjoy the fun too. And I don’t have to worry about huge messes. Since we had these totes floating around just begging to be made adorable we grabbed a few and started stamping. This kit seriously makes doing projects with my girls SO simple and quick. All the supplies are there and we just get to enjoy making!
This project was as simple as opening the box choosing the stamp and placing the image. Then we added the little gift tags to add some flair and made the sweet treat bags to put our snacks in. Of course we are like the “Give a Moose a Muffin” book and once we made these it was off to the splash park! We packed our watermelon tote bags with the essentials and had special treat bags that we couldn’t help but fill up with cookies for by the pool. My girls were jazzed to use their new watermelon tote bags and enjoy the Summer sun!
