We are snorkelers and love it. However, when my daughter came to visit, she and I decided to go Boating with Aquabulle, which is a little company out of Le Marin, Martinique that has two glass bottom boats so you can see all that is happening under the water. Why would we do this when we snorkel? Well, for the experience more than anything.
Before I get started, I want to tell you that this is not sponsored in any way. I paid for our tickets fair and square. I also should tell you, I forgot to take pictures of the boat, so these two are off of the Aquabulle website.
When you get on the boat, you drive out about 15 minutes off of shore to the reef area. Then you go down some stair and you are in a long room with windows on both sides. Everyone sits down and you just watch all that is happening for about 45 minutes. All of these photos were taken through glass, so they aren’t the very best pictures, but they are what I have.
The guides give you a brochure with the pictures and names of 22 different things that you might see while you are looking. The names of the things are in French and English, so that’s handy because the tour is in French. One of our guides speaks some English, so he came down and talked to each English speaking person to explain what he had just said.
He actually speaks better English that he gives himself credit for speaking. That is really handy because I have been here for seven months and still can only speak and understand a little bit of French. They talk so fast.
I will tell you what each fish is called, in English and then in French. This first fish is called a Yellowtail Snapper/Sarde queue jaune. I’ve seen these a lot when we’ve been snorkeling.
This fish is a Sergeant Major/Sergent Major and one of my favorite fish to watch while I’m snorkeling. I don’t know why. They aren’t very big either.
These little fish are called the Blue Chromis/Castagnole Bleue. They are so bright.
Here are more Yellowtail Snappers.
This one is the Doctor Fish/Chirurgien raye. We wondered if they are like those tiny fish we saw in Korea where if you soak your feet in a tub of them, they will eat your dead skin off. They are quite a lot bigger though.
This is just a variety.
This is my girl. I’m really having fun with her and will hate it when she goes home. I don’t know why she would go home. It’s freezing and there is so much snow. Not my favorite kind of weather.
This is the Queen Parrotfish/Perroquet royal and this picture does not do it justice. It is such a beautiful fish. Hopefully I can get a good picture of one with my under water camera sometime.
So many fish. It was fun to see them. At the end of the tour we decided that we really could have seen them all for free just snorkeling and probably have. However, we enjoyed ourselves and our time together and it wasn’t too expensive.
This is a perfect tour for small children or someone who doesn’t really like the water. We sat next to a lady like that, she hates the water and she has small kids. It was perfect for them. All in all, I would say it was worth the money and the guides were really friendly, so that was great right off the bat. What is your favorite kind of vacation? Let me know in the comments please.
