Vegan Peppermint Salt Scrub
Now that the presents are wrapped beneath the tree and things are packed to head to Texas to see family my body and mind are completely exhausted. I am in need of a good pick me up after all that foot work and planning and the bags under my eyes prove it. It’s time to settle back and take in the ambience of the season! What better way to do this than a spa day with my girls?
Thanks so much to Infinity Jars and ToGoSpa for sponsoring this post.
Unfortunately, I am not that lady who can up and take her little ladies with her to a leisurely day at the spa. First of all, my kids are high energy and would be in that hot wax before anyone could ask if they wanted cucumber infused water. They would be throwing the slippers at each other and rolling on the floor giggling. We are not ready for that scene, plus I would have to put pants on, so we have to pamper here at home.
We started out our Casa de Candice Spa day with Ice Eyes and Lip Treatments from ToGoSpa. This is what I really needed. The eye treatment was so soothing, de-puffing, and gentle. I saw real results with the collagen, vitamins, and gentle ingredients. My girls loved the texture and I loved knowing they were paraben and dye free and I didn’t have to worry about yucky chemicals on my babies.
We also tried the lip treatments with peels of giggles and really awesome selfie session. Considering we all had chapped lips thanks to the winter weather we were happy to lock in some moisture with a light coconut lip treatment. After the twenty minutes those littles of mine were done and we had a great little mini-vacation together. I felt rejuvenated and lighter and my skin felt as good as after a pro treatment. ALSO, laughing and the spa really should go together it made my whole day brighter.
My next treatment for a real winning stay at home spa is my own recipe tried and true and so simple. I came up with it when several years ago I had a major skin reaction that landed me in the emergency room. I was covered in a red burning rash, the nursing staff thought I had fallen asleep in a tanning bed and got cooked. I had hives and my skin was weeping. It was a nightmare.
After I got out of the hospital with a “hey you are probably allergic to something” diagnosis, I decided to eradicate a majority of products I used. It was a sad day for me because I loved my beauty products! But I broke my beauty routine down to very basic things, stuff you find in your kitchen. I began creating recipes. One of my favorite for this time of year is my Vegan Peppermint Salt Scrub. It is incredibly simple and is perfect for tired achy feet from shopping all day and cold tired chapped hands that wrapped one billion presents.
Before I give you my very basic secret recipe I want to tell you about my recent exciting find for storing my product. Infinity Jars are these amazing new ultra-violet light filtering and air tight glass containers. They keep the product fresh for up to six months.
Initially I got these Infinity Jars to store my spices, I loved the clean black glass and the white labels. But I quickly found another use for them. If you make any sort of homemade beauty product I implore you to consider storing them in these instead of traditional jars.
When I first started making my own products they would go bad quickly, I would have to store them in the fridge and then wait for them to come to room temperature it was a pain. Not to mention my fridge looked like a voodoo den. Since switching to Infinity Jars I have been able to keep my concoctions for longer and they are fresh and ready to go. It is really brilliant science that you can read about HERE.
- 1 cup medium coarse salt (I like pink Himalayan)
- ½ cup coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1-2 drops Pure Therapeutic Grade Peppermint Essential oil
- 1 Infinity Jar for storage
- Melt your coconut oil over low heat.
- Remove from heat and pour into a bowl.
- Add your olive oil and essential oil mix well.
- Mix in your coarse salt to create a thick paste, you may need more or less salt depending on how coarse yours is. Adjust accordingly.
- Finally, pour into your Infinty Jar for air-tight storage to keep it fresh.
At the end of a shower or bath use on hands and feet, rub gently to remove dead and dry skin. I like to let it set for a few minutes to sink in. Finally rinse well, I like a cold rinse. After your skin will feel softer and moisturized and the peppermint oil will uplift and rejuvenate.
How do you rejuvenate and relax this time of year?
