These Christmas Coasters came about one day as I was watching sweat roll down my glass and onto the wood table. I had been thinking about buying some coasters, but just didn’t do it. They are easy to make and you can make them for any holiday by just picking different fabric. I am using the Cozy Christmas fabrics I received from Riley Blake Designs, to match the other Christmas decorations I have made. It’s truly a love affair with these oh so cute fabrics and I’m so happy for them.

Supplies needed per set:
- 1/2 yard of fabric
- 1/4 yard fusible fleece
- tape measurer
The instructions are simple and this is a pretty quick project. So quick in fact that I have made about 6 sets of coasters, with 6 in each set. Start out by picking your fabrics and cutting 2 pieces for each coaster, measuring 5 inches by 5 inches, so that you have 12 pieces of fabric per set.
Next, cut your fusible fleece in 4 1/2 inch x 4 1/2 inch squares, to have 6 per set.
Iron each piece of fabric and adhere the fusible fleece to one piece of each coaster set, following the package instructions.
Match your fabrics, right sides together.
Sew around the edge of the coasters, 1/4 inch in from the edge, leaving an opening for turning the fabric right side out. (blue arrow)
Trim around the edge and clip the corners.
Turn the fabric right side out through the opening. (yellow arrow)
Iron the coaster flat, paying special attention to the edges and folding in the opening. (yellow arrow)
Sew around the edge, all the way around, ensuring you sew the opening closed.
And you’re done!
Now you have either a handy decoration or an easy and fairly quick Christmas gift in these Christmas Coasters. If you planned ahead, you could make a great gift for someone by making coasters for each holiday throughout the year. Wouldn’t that be a fun gift?!
Thanks so much to Riley Blake Designs for sponsoring my Christmas sewing projects this year. It has been so much fun to work with their fabulous Cozy Christmas fabrics. How are your Christmas projects coming along? What is the favorite thing you have made this year?
