This past Wednesday my husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Martinique. Holy Cow! Where did the time go? I’m pretty sure I’m not old enough to have a 25th wedding anniversary already! Alas, the calendar says otherwise. The trader! We celebrated our anniversary in Martinique, since that’s where we live right now. It isn’t really what I thought we would do.

I had this vision, which was obviously very wrong, of celebrating our 25th anniversary with our children throwing us this great party and some friends and family coming in and freezing with us, because it probably would have been in Idaho. You know, like the movies. Ha ha ha! I’m not really sure how that works out because it seems like those people always have kids older than ours and they are doctors and lawyers. None of my kids are even old enough to get through medical or law school yet, if that was their desired path in life. It’s not, by the way, which is awesome. Whatever makes them happy.
Since 25 years is such a big deal, the silver anniversary and all of that, you would think if not a party, then maybe a getaway. Lets be honest here. We live in Paradise. Where would we go that would be better? Not too many places could fit the bill, plus, there’s the bill. So, we opted to stay here and my husband took the day off. I was a little dubious about this day off because he’s in charge of this big project here and I figured his phone would ring all day. Thankfully, he has awesome guys working for/with him and I’m pretty sure they didn’t even call until the end of their work day. It’s was so nice.
I decided to start out our anniversary a few days early with this fun banner from The Dating Divas Anniversary Countdown kit. This kit comes with a variety of fun things to add to each day, like an advent calendar, so I picked the ones I wanted to do and put them in the banner letters.
Our location limited what we could do a little because we don’t have our wedding video with us and printing photos that we’ve taken here would be added weight to take when we leave, but there were still some fun ones we could do. I think my husband liked that I made something for him/us.
There are also a few blank cards that you can fill out how you want. I found these printables from one of the links that go with the kit and made this one of our days. One is travel, one is favorites and one is just general information. Aren’t they fun?! I love that all the work is done, especially this time of year.
On our actual anniversary in Martinique, my husband planned a really fun day of exploring. We went to the other side of the island, all the way north to the end of the road to a cute little town. We walked out past the end of the road on the beach as far as we could go. It was really pretty, with the black sand beach. The water was super rough because it’s on the windy side of the island, so no swimming here. See my cute husband checking his email? I think it’s one of the few times he even looked at his phone.
We had lunch at a little restaurant in the town by this beach and then were off to drive through the jungle to the other side of the island. Seriously, it’s a jungle from one side to the other. We enjoyed our drive and the plan was to snorkel out around all the rocks to a secluded beach and have a picnic dinner and watch the sunset. Too bad for us, it was not to be. The water was really rough, it started raining and there was no sunset. Yes, I know the sun actually set, there was just nothing to see.
We didn’t really have a plan B, so we drove home through crazy traffic. Our dinner that night was fried potatoes and left over chicken. My husband felt bad about that, but it was fine. We were together for our anniversary for I think the first time in 4 years, since we lived in China, so I was totally happy with it. We also watch a movie we hadn’t seen yet, the newest Jason Bourne movie. Not very romantic, but action packed.
We had a bottle of sparkling cider to make our toast with, but we fell asleep before that actually happened, so it’s waiting for us. I think we will have that tonight. All in all, an anniversary in Martinique is not a bad thing. People pay a lot of money to come here and we get to do it just for the cost of living here. Life is good.
This anniversary countdown kit that I got helped us celebrate in a way we didn’t think we would and I’m happy I got it. There are so many cute things to easily make your day even more special.
