We have officially been here a month today. One whole month in Paradise. It’s hard to believe, but the calendar says it’s so. Today I thought I would share some photos of the apartment we found to live in, along with a few others of the island. This is one of those places that has beauty everywhere you look. Seriously. We are really enjoying it and feel very blessed for the opportunity to experience Martinique.
Martinique is only about 44 miles long and 17 miles wide, at the largest points, so you would think there wouldn’t be much to see. You would be wrong. I keep seeing new places. We have been taking drives each week to different areas and they are always a treat. Isn’t this beach beautiful?
Now to our apartment. We live in a two bedroom apartment, on the fourth floor of the building. It has an elevator, so we were happy about that, especially on grocery day. The first pictures are of our kitchen and entry. My birthday was a week before we left and my oldest and her family gave me one of those frames where the pictures change. It sits on our bar. We leave our shoes at the door, so we don’t track dirt in. Think I have enough flip flops? That’s only half of them. I haven’t had regular shoes on in a month. I even have dress flip flops for Sundays.
The apartment was all just remodeled and we are the first people to live in it since it was completed. It has a lot more storage than the other apartments I looked at, so I was happy about that. I like to go to the grocery store once a week, so it’s good to have the room for everything.
Our living room has this furniture in it. I am not a fan of all the cords under the table, but everything works, so that’s awesome.
This is the bathroom and probably the thing I hate the most about European apartments. The toilet is in a whole different room from the rest of the bathroom. As an American, it makes no sense to me. However, it must work for Europeans, or they wouldn’t do it. Right? The shower has lights and a radio in it, along with jets and a rain shower head. It’s really nice.
Our bedroom faces the ocean and trees, so there is a nice view if you open the curtains. Again, there is a lot of storage. I seriously love that. It doesn’t make me feel so cramped. The second bedroom doesn’t have a bed in it, but has a nice chaise lounge instead. I know I will have visitors, so I am planning on getting a good air mattress for guests. I use the room as a craft room. Imagine that. The spare room has more storage. Yay!
You can see in the bottom right picture that I brought some of our stuff from home that we normally use. I’m happy I did that because I haven’t found the things I brought yet.
We have an amazing terrace at this apartment with a really lovely view. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen one or two photos from this terrace show up on my feed. If you don’t follow me there, you really should. It’s @creativemammakathleen.
We really love our apartment and the people we rent from are amazing. They are super nice and very generous. I’m so happy we found them.
I thought I would share some other flowers I have taken photos of over the weeks. There are so many different varieties and they are so pretty.
This rock is called Diamond Rock, which is an important part of the history of Martinique. In 1805, there was a battle between the French and British navies for control of the rock, as it blocked the entrance to Fort-de-France Harbor. If you want to read more about it, you can look it up online.
If you would like to read more in depth posts on Martinique, you can subscribe to receive updates on my other blog, Pebble Pirouette. There are weekly updates there that have more detail and more photos. I hope you enjoyed this post. I’d love to read your comments about the things I’m sharing.
