I have a problem with fabric. I’ve talked about this in the past, but I’m not really getting over it. If I see fabric I love or that I think someone I love would love, I often get it. Not the whole bolt, but a yard or two. It is because of this sickness that this project came about. You see, I saw these super hero fabrics and immediately thought of my grandsons and their love of all things super hero. Actually, my son has the same love, but I’m not sure his cute wife would appreciate these as much as the grandsons. After looking at the fabric for a couple of months, I decided I would make some Easy DIY Pillowcases for the kids. Picking a fabric for my grand daughter was a piece of cake because she loves all things Frozen.
I made standard size pillowcases, but if your pillows are a different shape or size, just measure them from the center of each side and add 2 inches. For the main fabric, I cut it 26 x 38 inches. For the cuff fabric, I cut it 11 x 38. Iron the fabric.
Fold the cuff fabric in half lengthwise and iron it well.
For the main fabric, fold the top edge over 1/2 inch, twice, and iron it in place, as shown in the picture below.
Pin the bottom edge of the cuff fabric to the wrong side of the main fabric, as shown below. Only overlapping 1/2 inch.
Sew the cuff and main fabric together. If you put your fingers on either side of the folded edge, it will help you be sure you are attaching the fabric correctly. Pay no attention to my fingers. It’s cold and dry here right now and my hands are drying out.
Next, fold the fabric in half longways. Sew around the bottom and non-folded side. Trim the edge and turn it right side out.
This is what your cuff will look like where it is attached.
This is one of the pillowcases finished. See, it was so simple, right? I think she really loves it!
These are the boy’s pillowcases. They are fun, just like the boys. Now I know how to make pillowcases.
So tell me, do you think you could make a pillowcase for someone you love? It’s so fun to make them to match their loves. Is there something you want me to try to figure out how to make? Let me know in the comments below. Maybe I can figure it out.
