I love a good fruit pie, but my husband is a hater. A serious hater. Any cooked fruit makes him shutter. I don’t know why his taste buds are broken, but they are. He won’t eat it and just seeing it makes him shutter. Weird duck. Recently he was on a business trip, so I decided it would be a great time to make this Peach Apple Caramel Trifle I had been dreaming of and see if it was as good in real life as it was in my head. P.S., it was.
I went to my local Walmart to pick out the items I would need, according to my dream. Do you think it’s odd to dream up recipes in your sleep? I do it pretty frequently. I must think about food a lot. I picked out two Marie Callender’s® Dessert Pies and a can of Reddi-wip®, plus some caramel sauce and chopped pecans.
My flavor choices were the Dutch Apple Pie and Lattice Peach Pie and they were perfect together. If you are an amazing caramel maker, you could make your own, but you want it to be pourable.
I decided to use individual trifle dishes for easy serving. This way everyone has their own and they continue to look pretty. This is also a great choice if you are having a party where people will be walking around. This recipe makes 8 2 cup servings, which is the size of my small trifle dishes. You can adjust the serving size based on the size of your dishes.
The basics with a trifle are that there are layers of ingredients. I love making dessert trifles because you can combine flavors to make delicious desserts out of regular, simple ingredients.
When you are making trifles, you also want to repeat your layers at least one time. In this case the layers are Marie Callender’s® Dessert Pies Dutch Apple Pie, Lattice Peach Pie, caramel, pecans and then repeat. Top with Reddi-Wip®.
Having intimate get togethers during the busy holiday season is a wonderful way to stay connected with your friends and sanity. Your table doesn’t have to be over the top, just simple pieces, yummy food and great friends. Be sure to keep your centerpiece low, like votive candles on a pretty dish, so you can all see each other. An idea for a fun addition is for each person to bring 1 gift and have everyone exchange gifts. You could have a theme, like craft or cooking supplies, favorite books or favorite snacks.
