What does Christmas mean to you? What are your traditions? To me, it is a time to celebrate Christ and remember all He does for me. It is also a time to spend time with my family and friends. Of course, there are also all of the great foods and all of the fun times! As I get older, because I’m not a youngster anymore, I try to find way, both large and small, to Keep Christ in Christmas and not focus on so much commercialism. I was recently approached by Covenant Publishers and asked to share some items with you and as I looked them over, I thought they would all be great things to add to our Christmas celebration to help us remember why we have Christmas and all of the blessings we have because of Him.
The first item is a Marble Christus Statue. This particular statue is 3 inches tall, but they come in lots of different sizes. This is a replica of the Christus Statue in the Visitor’s Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. My husband loves looking at this statue and any time we are at Temple Square, we go see it. It’s very beautiful. I’m happy to have this in my home, where my husband can see it every day.
A Songbook for LDS Families, with 46 musical selections by Janice Kapp Perry is a really lovely book, featuring artwork from Greg Olsen, Simon Dewey and Tom Lovell to highlight her songs. The book tells the stories behind each musical number, giving you a feel for Sister Perry’s thoughts when she wrote the songs. My favorite is ‘I Walk by Faith’, which we sang when I worked in the Young Women’s program at church.
He Knows My Name is a 35 minute long DVD that introduces Rebekah and her family to the man her neighbors call Jesus, forever changing their lives. Watch this with your family now and it would be perfect for Easter as well. He knows your name too.
It’s All About Christmas is a lovely hard cover book full of everything that happens at Christmas. Recipes, stories, quotes, trivia and Christmas carols, it’s all there. This book would make a wonderful gift for a new family or a wonderful friend. I love reading Christmas books each year and I’m looking so forward to pouring over all of the pages of this book.
No Ordinary Shepherd is a short 25 minute DVD that tells of a young crippled boy who hears about the birth of Jesus from his father through out his life and the miracle he experiences when he meets a stranger in the hills he frequents. The perfect movie to share with your family.
Words of Christmas, we hear them every year, Faith, Hope, Love and so many more. This book teaches us the true meaning of Christmas, one word at a time. It takes us through 25 words and the deeper meaning of each one to the season. You can start this book on December 1st and study one word each day until Christmas, to help you focus on the true meaning. A perfect activity to do with your family each day.
What are some of your Christmas traditions? Do you have children in your home or are you an empty nester? Tell me your favorite tradition below. I’d love to hear about it.
I was provided a copy of each of these items so I could intelligently talk about them. All opinions are 100% my own.
