Today we have a special treat. My friend Beckie, who I met when I worked at JoAnn Fabric last year, is going to show us how to make Bows with Bowdabra! Have you heard of a Bowdabra? If not and you like to make bows, but are bow challenged like me, you should check them out for sure. They are pretty neat and don’t cost a lot. Thanks so much to Bowdabra for supplying us with this handy tool.
Today I made a new friend! Who is this new friend you may ask? I got to play with the Bowdabra…it was a lot of fun!!! I wasn’t sure how long for my playdate with this new toy so I carved out my whole morning thinking it was going to take forever and guess what I was done in ½ hour. Can you believe that?
I mean how cool is it to go from this…
I made all sorts of bows…and usually I am not really a bow person. It was fun and way easy…my kind of project. Plus you really don’t need a lot of tools either.
For the following bow I used the Bowdabra stand, bar, wire and ribbon.
First you fold the ribbon in half and tuck under the sides to hold it into place.
Next you take your ribbon and and slide it in between the slots on the stand. Then you fold it over and layer back and forth. You want to try to keep your folds even on both sides.
Once you have it where you want it then you take the bar..slide it in and pull it down so that it holds everything in place…like so.
It’s a little crooked but I had to take my hand off so I could get a picture for you all.
Now we are ready for the next step which is you will want together both ends of the wire and do a slip knot.
Then I took it and flipped it over and tied a square knot on the back to hold it securely in place.
When I had finished I looked at it and knew that I wanted to add a little more to it…so I made a smaller version and then attached the two together so it would give it more dimension.
Ta- da! Here it what it looks like all finished! So cute… am I right? I just took the smaller one and wired it right onto the big one and trimmed those wires down…so there weren’t so many.
The next bow I did was a Fold & Twist with a Floral Loop…I just adore the way it turned out. Wouldn’t that just be so super cute on a Thanksgiving basket?
This next bow was my absolute favorite one to do…it’s the Package bow…I think I enjoyed it the most as it was full of layers and textures!
I mean is that not just the cutest bow ever? Doesn’t it just make you want to make some jam so you have an excuse to put a bow on it! Acutally it worked out perfect as I have an amazing friend who just had a birthday and this totally made the jam look 10 times cuter …cause you know jam needs to look cute. Not really but it gave it an added touch and really just puts a smile on your face!
We had so much fun with this one…my little man even joined in to help me. This one is the scrunchy bow…he thinks it should be called the loofah. He kept asking if we could make some to put in the shower. I told him I don’t think he wants it made out of glitter…it might get a little scratchy. He loved being able to help and feed the ribbon in.
Thanks so much Beckie for showing us how to make some fun bows. Be on the look out for more posts by Beckie from time to time.
