Do you have a craft room? I’m so excited because I finally have one all my own. I love to be able to have a place where I can do what I want, lots and lots of crafts. Seriously. It’s fantastic. When we moved into our house, I used the room to store boxes until I could get them unpacked. Since I’ve emptied the room, I’ve slowly been making it my own fun space. Today I’m going to show you my DIY Painted Floor. It’s a fun space and I’m happy I did it.
Most of the room has hard wood floors. I love them. They were covered with carpet when we bought the house is 2002, but in 2007, my son-in-law was nice enough to pull up the carpet and refinish the floor. It looks wonderful. There is one small spot, under the window, that is an add on from some past owner. When they added that space, they put particle board down instead of hard wood to match everything else. Probably because they were going to carpet the room. Since I don’t have carpet there anymore and since we aren’t ready to put hard wood there yet, I decided to paint that area.
Here’s a problem though, I can’t find the process pictures. I don’t know where they went. There were loads of them. Now they are gone. I don’t know what happened. So, I will have to tell you want I did.
First, I removed the heating grate and made sure all the dust and dirt were off of the floor. I cleaned the grate and then spray painted it white. Then I used painter’s tape and taped the finished part of the floor so I wouldn’t get paint on that part of the floor. (It almost worked.) Next, I painted the floor with regular white wall paint. I ended up applying three coats because particle board sucks up the paint so much.
After the white paint was dry about two days, I used a stencil and taped it in place and painted almost all of the arrows dark gray. I picked one arrow on most stencils to paint yellow or blue, to go with the room. I painted each one twice, allowing it to dry between coats, before I moved it to the next place to stencil.
I finished the floor with water based varnish to protect it from getting scratched. It took me about three more days before I had it completely finished, but I really love it! I’m looking for a fun chair to put in the space to just relax and read a book.
