I was recently asked by J.M. Smucker Company to share some fun ideas for your next adventure, using some of their awesome products. All opinions, texts and photos are 100% my own.
This summer has really flown by. I’ve had so much fun spending time with my grandkids, doing some fun stuff with them around the house, going to movies and lots of arts and crafts. Since the end of summer vacation is fast approaching, I thought I would come up with one more fun adventure with them. Today I am sharing 11 Tips for Fun Family Adventure with you, so your next adventure can be loads of fun too!
How Much Time Do You Have
(One) The first thing you have to do is determine how much time you have for your adventure. We just had a day, so we had to go somewhere close. However, if you have longer, for sure use the time. You can never go wrong spending time with your family.
Where Can You Go in Your Time Frame
(Two) If you only have a day, determine places you can visit in your town or area. You don’t want to spend the whole day in the car. See if there are any local events that would be fun to do with your kids. Your local Chamber of Commerce should have an online calendar with all of the upcoming events.
(Three) If you have more time, get out a map and find a destination or even a few that you can drive to and explore away. We really like to go camping and hiking if we have a few free days. You could visit a town that isn’t too far away and explore a new area. Visit a National Park. The possibilities are endless.
(Four) If you are staying local, getting there is an easy thing. However, if you live in a big city, you will need to determine if there is parking at your destination or if you should use public transportation to get there and avoid what could turn into a parking nightmare.
(Five) If you are going someplace away from your town, decide on a route. If you can, take a different route back so you can see new places. If possible, don’t use an interstate. All the best things are off the beaten path.
(Six) If you’re going somewhere that takes more than one day to arrive, consider staying in a hotel with a pool. Kids get all wound up sitting in the car all day and playing in the pool when you get to the hotel will ensure that you get a good night sleep. Seriously.
Keep ‘em Busy
(Seven) If you’re traveling by car, have loads of activities to keep everyone occupied. It will save your sanity for sure. Our kids liked to read, color (no crayons in the car, they melt), play travel size games and play with those magnetic scene sets when they were young. That was before all of the electronics, so now you could add video games and all of that other stuff too. However, it would be a great time to unplug and enjoy some conversation.
Snacks, lots of Snacks
(Eight) I can’t stress this enough. Get some great snacks. If you don’t, you will be sorry and you will be stopping all the time. I took my grandkids to Walmart and had them pick out some snacks for our adventure. Smucker® has so many fun options for snacking and for fun picnics too.
For our adventure, they picked out these yummy Smucker’s® Uncrustables with grape jelly as their “main dish”.
As we were looking around at the other Smucker’s® and Jif® products, we found some things that really interested me, like these new Smucker’s® Fruit Fulls, which our Walmart had in four flavors. I’m really excited about these because the ingredients are exactly what they say of the front, Apples and Strawberries or Apples and Cinnamon, etc. Perfect!
Smucker’s® also has these amazing jellies and jams that are all natural and just like mom would make. There are so many varieties and I’m excited to try a few of them.
While we were in the store, the kids picked out some Jif® to Go Dippers in the Chocolate Silk flavor and some Jif® Chocolate Flavored Hazelnut Spread because they know of my crazy love of chocolate. Aren’t they nice? I was completely letting them pick everything out, so they must really love me.
Next, we picked out some things to dip in our Jif® because you have to have a great way to eat it all, besides your fingers. Right? Although fingers are good too.
Don’t Plan Your Trip too Tight
(Nine) When you’re planning your trip, be sure not to pack your schedule too tight. You want to have some time to visit someplace you didn’t know existed if you see something that interests someone. We have found some really fun and interesting places over the years by being flexible.
Clean Up Supplies
(Ten) Be sure to have plenty of wet wipes, tissues and hand sanitizer with you. Kids can be messy and also, if you’re out in the world, they will be touching lots of things with germs. You want to be able to clean them up before you feed them all of their great food you’ve picked out.
(Eleven) If you’re going somewhere that might be messy or if you are potty training a child, bring an extra set of clothes for each child. If they get messy, you don’t want to have to stop your fun to go home for new clothes and you also don’t want your kids to be miserable.
Whatever your adventure holds, the most important thing is to spend time together, having fun and making memories. Where will your next adventure take you?
