We’d like to thank Carrom Games for sponsoring this post.
I spend a crazy amount of time on my computer. I have this blog, plus two others and it takes time to edit photos and write posts. Plus there is all of the social media involved that I hadn’t even considered when we started this blog. Then there is my phone. My kids all like to communicate via text, so we do that through out the day. We are pretty close, so it really is often.
I frequently feel that I need to unplug, but it doesn’t happen. I think I need to force myself to make it happen though, both for my sanity and to show those around me that they are important to me.
Have you heard of National UnPlug Night? I have heard of variations of it a few times and I personally love the concept. It seems like we are all so busy these days, between work obligations, sports practice, school, home work and lots of other things, there just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day. Then you throw in all of the time we spend on our computers, with video games and the never-ending interactions we have on our phones and the day is shot.
National UnPlug Night is when you do exactly that, unplug, and spend some good, quality time with your family. During this time you do something that doesn’t require electricity to work. No computers. No video games. No phones. Does that sound like complete Heaven to you? It does me.
Carrom Game Store is promoting National UnPlug Night, on October 16, 2014, in YOUR living room! Don’t worry, we won’t all show up. It’s for you and your family to spend time together, having fun, communicating, with no electronics. Now, I know some of you may have teenagers, but even if they complain, because that is what teenagers do, they will still have lots of fun too.
I thought I would provide you with a list of things you can do on your UnPlug Night. The possibilities are endless though, so use your imagination and see what you can come up with. Some of these things are for right at your house and some are for outside someplace.
Go Fishing – you can do this in a pond, lake, river, ocean or your own bathtub. The bathtub one will obviously not have real fish, but if you have little kids, they will get a kick out of it.
Go for a Nature Walk/Hike – you can even make this a scavenger hunt with a list of things for your family to look for while you’re hiking.
Bake Something – cookies, cakes, bread, whatever you like. Then eat it!!
Go Swimming – depending on where you live, you may have to do this indoors, but it’s still a fun time.
Do Some Crafting – Most kids love this. You can paint, make jewelry, draw, or lots of other things, depending on the age of your kids.
Make Pasta from Scratch – we did this when our kids were younger and ended up getting into a flour fight in our dining room. It was loads of fun, but we sure made a mess.
Play Hop Scotch – I haven’t played this in years, but I always really loved it. So much fun!!
Play a Board Game – a regular board game that doesn’t require any electricity. Carrom Games has some really fun options.
We recently received a game from Carrom Games to review. We didn’t know which game we would get until it showed up. It’s like Christmas! The game that came was Nok Hockey. I love air hockey, so I was really excited about this game. It’s similar to regular hockey, except you set the board on a table and don’t have to try to keep yourself upright on skates. That’s a huge plus for me because I’m not a very good skater.
Our opinion of this game is that it is really well made and sturdy, which is such a great thing. It’s frame is made from solid wood. It measures about 35″ x 25″ x 2″, so it’s not a little thing, but it is the perfect size for this game. It comes with two hardwood pucks and two plastic hockey sticks.
When we got it, Samantha introduced it to our two guinea pigs, her boys Hayden and Owen. They had loads of fun playing it together and even little Lily got involved. They are young kids, so their mom was with them while they were playing to supervise and explain how to play the game. Now, these little boys are very competitive, so they got into the game a lot. You can see it from the action shots!
The Nok Hockey would be a really fun game to have to National UnPlug Night on October 16th. Carrom Games also has some other fun games and you can see them all on their website.
