This week my baby girl will be turning one! Due to school starting, Labor Day, and some family members being out of town, we did her party last week. So for this week, except for Friday, we will be showing you special things we did with Lily’s party to maybe give you some inspiration on your next event. Friday I will be doing a post on making the first day of school special, so keep an eye out for that.
Today I will be starting with dessert. Her theme was hot pink and zebra, so fun for us! I made cupcakes for all of the guests and then I made Lily her own special cake.
For the cupcakes I used zebra cupcake liners, which I found at Walmart, they had them either in the baking aisle or the wedding aisle. I have seen them at Albertson’s or at Zurcher’s as well.
I made chocolate and vanilla using cake mixes
72 cupcakes!!!! Did you know you can get cupcake containers like these at Albertson’s in the bakery??
I used the middle container to make the pink frosting, I also found it in the wedding aisle
Now that’s pink!!!!
I made my own bag for the frosting out of a storage bag. You can but the little tips at Walmart in, you guessed it, the wedding aisle for I think $1.50 for 4 of them.
I frosted all of the cupcakes
Then added these white pearl sprinkles….wedding aisle.
And now for Lily’s zebra cake….
I first started with two 5″ baking pans, and a box of chocolate and a box of white cake mix, prepared as directed on the box.
Then I put a spoonful of chocolate cake mix,
then a spoonful of white cake mix, and so on until both pans were full.
On these I did them opposite so I could stack them together.
I may or may not have filled them too full. I’m sure you can tell by the cookie sheet that I do it a lot 🙂
I ended up cooking them for 25 minutes on the temperature on the box. I tried stacking the two cakes together and it just wasn’t working, so I decided to use one as an example and one for Lily. I frosted it with the same pink frosting as the cupcakes.
Then I made another smaller bag for some white frosting so I could write on the cake.
Then I decorated the plate with a few of the pearl sprinkles and put a few more on top.
This was my example cake and what the inside looks like. If you are making a bigger cake it will come out with a few more stripes, this is just a really small cake.
She loved every bit of it!!
Happy Birthday to my sweet Lily!! I can’t believe its already been a year!!!!!!!
