In the past 18 months, we have been eating more healthy. When I say healthy, I don’t mean only eating vegetables and stuff we have never seen. I mean almost no processed food and cutting back on junk food. We also cut out “fizzy drinks” as they say in Great Britain, drinking water most of the time. However, I’m not going to be miserable, so an occasional sweet is a must in my mind! If I can make it from scratch, all the better.
My husband absolutely loves German Chocolate Cake, because he LOVES the frosting. Before I found this recipe, I always made him German Chocolate Cake on his birthday, with two cans of frosting. In the future, I will use this recipe. It tastes sooooo much better than the boxed cake and canned frosting and he really loved it too. I took it to a church function once and it was completely gone when I picked up the dish to take it home! Seriously, it is that good.
I found the recipe on Pinterest from another blogger, so I’m not posting the full recipe here. You will need to click over to her page for the specifics. Here is the link: http://nancycreative.com/2012/05/29/over-the-top-german-chocolate-brownies/ . The pictures below are from when I made the brownies. Seriously, so good.
I baked the brownies first and while they were cooking, I made the frosting. I do have a few tips for the frosting though.
First, melt the butter and let it cool a little bit.
Second, be sure to mix in the egg yolks really well before you put the milk mixture on the stove to heat. If you don’t do this, the eggs will actually cook a little bit and separate from the mixture. You don’t want that.
Third, when adding the pecans to the frosting, use the pecan chips or chop the pecans really fine. If you use the bigger pieces of pecans, they fall off of the cake when you frost it. It’s a pain to get them to stick to the frosting if they fall off.
The finished product. Seriously, in case you didn’t understand yet, so incredibly, awesomely yummy! Try it out yourself!
